Arsenal Claim Last-Minute Victory Over Man City Rivals
English Premier League (EPL) leaders Manchester City were toppled on Sunday, 8 October, when Arsenal narrowly claimed a 1-0 victory over the Citizens.
It was a tense evening as fans for both teams came together at Emirates Stadium in London, England. However, by the half-time whistle, neither side had managed to score in the surprisingly quiet match.
Gunners forward, Gabriel Martinelli, added some drama to the game in the final four minutes with an impressive strike that glanced off Citizens defender, Nathan Ake, and into the awaiting goalposts.
Man City players Kyle Walker and Erling Haaland both struggled to contain their disappointment at the defeat, resulting in an altercation with members of Arsenal’s backroom staff, including Gunners set-piece coach Nicolas Jover – who previously worked at City.
Despite the on-pitch incident having been caught on camera, neither head coach seemed eager to discuss the matter with the media. “I know what happened but I won’t say anything,” Man City manager Pep Guardiola commented enigmatically during the post-match press conference.
The Citizens – who were at the top of the EPL table at the start of the weekend – have slid down to third place with 18 points, behind Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal who each have 20 points.
